Many of the region’s employment opportunities revolve around the sugar and horticulture industries upon which much of the area’s economy replies. Further to this is the host of technical and input industries (e.g. irrigation, fertiliser, chemical, etc) which support the cropping. The primary industry sector also includes a productive local fishery featuring a range of fish, prawns, and crab products.
Other areas of vocational focus include engineering and manufacturing, tourism, education and training and health and medical provision. Clearly, with a population of approximately 90,000 people, the district also has all the employment prospects one would expect an any urban area including a host of retail, professional and service industries.
