Winterfeast Attracts Nationwide Attention...

Foodies in a Frenzy over our Feast!

Local farmers and foodies from all around the region have gathered together to celebrate the 10 day festival of food we call 'Winterfeast'.  The event has caught the attention of the nation's food crtics and media in a wonderful display of the huge range of fresh produce grown in the Bundaberg and North Burnett regions. Read more about this year's celebrations on the ABC website here.

Bundaberg Open for Development

2016 Development Incentives

The Bundaberg Regional Council has launched a new range of incentives to stimulate further development activity, provide opportunities for longer term job creation and to assist housing affordability in our region.  

Council is offering generous discounts off infrastructure charges for development that is completed by 19 July 2018 across four broad categories:
• Rural Sector development;
• Development in the Bundaberg CBD and town centres of Bargara, Childers and Gin Gin;
• Long Term Employment Generating development; and
• Certain residential development assisting housing affordability.

Local Commodity Trifecta

Ag on a High in the Bundaberg Region

Bundaberg’s regional economy and local producers are currently reaping the benefits of a great growing season, buoyant prices and terrific yields.

The three most visible crops in our region these days are cane, Macadamia and avocado. This harvest season, all three are providing great returns for growers. Not only are we seeing high production levels, but demand is also going through the roof for these products keeping prices well supported.

Bundaberg Regional Council Economic Development Officer Scott Coleman said, “as one of our strongest industry sectors, the positive effects of such good prices and harvests in agriculture have spin off influences right through our local economy.”

Agreement Paves Way for Future Chinese Students

CQUniversity Off and Running with Successful Exchange Program

A first-of-its-kind agreement between CQUniversity and Guangxi University has not only produced a successful visit by four Chinese students to Bundaberg campus.

According to CQUni Senior International Partnerships Officer Haiyi Wu, the Guangxi model has provided a template for further 'Study Abroad and Exchange' agreements with Guizhou Minzu University and Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering.

Mr Wu, who also works in Bundaberg Regional Council's Economic Development Unit, acknowledged the close relationship between University and Council and in particular the now mature Sister City program, in helping develop such initiatives as the exchange program.

A Multicultural Event !

Every year the township of Childers swells to 40,000 people with non-stop multicultural music and entertainment, hundreds of market stalls and a smorgasbord of food. In 2016, the Childers Festival will run from Saturday, 30 July to Sunday, 31 July.

State Schools Girls in Trades Day is an initiative of the CIF Project and Bundaberg Regional State High Schools Careers Project in conjunction with TAFE Queensland East Coast. The trade day has been introduced to address potential areas of opportunities for females who are interested in entering into a trade. It will give the participants the opportunity to gain first-hand experience and additional information for a range of trades that they might like to pursue as a career path.
